Besides the Empirical Senses,we do have other kinds of senses.A Myth or a fact?

Living organisms do have senses. The senses are linked to sense organs such as ears, eyes, skin, tongue, and the nose.Functions of the sense organs and their senses do involve the brain.

Five senses

They help living organisms to detect and cope with changes happening in their surroundings.

Many wonder to know whether there are more kinds of senses than those well known 5 empirical senses which are sight/visual, sound/auditory, touch/tactile, taste/gustatory, and smell/olfactory.

The fact is that there are other senses besides those five senses which are based on Scientific description.

1.Proprioception(kinesthesia) perception of one's movement and orientation in space.

Proprioception is extremely important in motor learning, smooth motor learning, and preventing injury (Verhagen et al., 2004).

2.Equilibrioception(sense of balance).

The sense of balance reflects an awareness of equilibrium involving the perception of gravity. It allows humans and animals to keep balance and avoid falling over when walking or standing still. This sense is determined by amount and level of fluid known as endolymph found in the inner ear.

3.Thermoception(sense of temperature).

The temperature of the air or contacting object is sensed relative to skin temperature, which is typically maintained around 32°C. Quick temperature changes are more easily sensed than slower changes;truly slow changes between 31°C and 36°C are likely not to be sensed, since they are compensated for by dilation or constriction of cutaneous blood vessels.

Temperature impact nearly every aspect of function in living organisms ranging from cell metabolism to animal behaviors.

So, living organisms have developed various sensory mechanisms permitting them to select their preferred temperatures, while avoiding thermal extremes,a vital process for animals to main temperature homeostasis.

4.Interoception—sense of one's physiological condition.
It is a sense that inspires and shapes our well being. This sense helps us understand our body’s internal sensations. This is the sense that helps us know if we’re hungry, thirsty, hot, cold, or any other feeling that begins within our bodies.

It enables us to regulate and control emotions. Our emotions are associated with  physical sensations.

For example, think about how feeling anxious can cause a racing heart, a dry mouth, sweating, tingling, and other physical sensations.

Interoception enables you understand these physical signs and control emotions. If you begin feeling anxious, you can also begin to take steps to feel calm, like taking deep breaths or going for a walk.

Understanding emotions and controlling them improves more with age. From birth we start to understand basic messages such as hunger and thirst.

Maybe we would say we have even far more senses than those above.A sense of love and affection;emotions of our senses can make a perfect list of 10 senses.
